The Land Cover data layer indicates various types of paved and vegetated surfaces throughout L.A. County.
This layer can help you identify surface types in your area, prioritize areas for future planning projects, and locate areas with a high percentage of pavement. While paving may be necessary in high-traffic areas such as transit stops, incorporating more vegetation in highly paved locations can help to reduce air and water pollution, alleviate the urban heat island effect, provide more shade and cooling, or increase biodiversity. Permeable pavement is one option for incorporating the benefits of vegetation into paved areas, specifically by allowing the infiltration of stormwater.
