CalEnviroScreen

The CalEnviroScreen data layer displays pollution exposure and social sensitivity to help identify areas that need resources. This metric is often used to determine which census tracts are eligible for priority funding. “Disadvantaged Community” status is assigned to census tracts that meet certain criteria, including those with the top 25% of CalEnviroScreen scores statewide or those that meet other criteria outlined here.

You can use this data layer to identify census tracts that require immediate installation of amenities, pollution reduction, or funding for vulnerable populations.

When you add the CalEnviroscreen data layer to the map, you will see the following sublayer:

  1. CalEnviroScreen Score

Census Tract Metric

This sublayer shows the CalEnviroScreen score at the census tract level. This data is derived from the California Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment. Some census tracts may be left blank where there is a low population or the data is unreliable.
