Social Sensitivity

The Social Sensitivity data layer displays areas that are particularly vulnerable to the effects of climate hazards, based on indicators such as income and health status of the population living in those areas.

Exploring the Social Sensitivity layer can help you understand which locations to prioritize for remedies. For instance, you can identify census tracts where elderly populations are more vulnerable to increased heat impacts from climate change and allocate funding or projects to those areas accordingly.

When you add the Social Sensitivity data layer to the map, you will see the following sublayers:

  1. Social Sensitivity

Census Tract Metric

This sublayer displays, by census tract, areas that are highly sensitive to climate hazards due to demographic and health factors. This index was calculated as a weighted aggregation of specific sub-indicators. This data is derived from L.A. County Chief Sustainability Office.
